Year 12 that is…
Life is comfy at Secondary School: you are surrounded by friends, teachers and routine…. all-so-very- familiar. Your soon-to-be transition from Year 12 into the unknown might be making you bury yourself deeper into your comfortable-feathery-haven-of-a-doona, not wanting to face your future, OR, you might know exactly what you want and are opening your arms wide to embrace the oncoming experiences.
Seriously, you have FOUR main choices:
- Further Education,
- Employment,
- Gap Year or
- Uh-oh-unemployment.
Each of these main choices can be broken down into sub-choicettes, for each sub-choicette I have supplied relevant web-sites to get you exploring.
Further Education
University….
For some of us, knowing which Uni to attend is a ‘no-brainer’, for others, it can be as difficult as deciding whether to (or where to) get a tattoo. As a fully functional Career-bot, I can highly recommend the following web-sites for your Uni-fication-perusal.
- VTAC Courselink
- UAC (NSW)
- UniOptions (terrific for pathway planning)
- Good Uni Guide
- Centre-link. Uh-oh Centrelink? Yup! For the majority of country students Centrelink will become a BF because of rural-ity-ness.
TAFE….
Most students will choose their local TAFE, but don’t forget there are many TAFE’s across Victoria – and even some Community Houses offer qualifications which might suit you.
Might I recommend:
- GOTAFE
- VTAC
- Good Uni Guide
- Community Houses: Numurkah | Kyabram | Cobram | your Community House not here? Google it!
SHIP…
An ApprenticeSHIP or TraineeSHIP is a pretty cool option because it is a combo deal #workandtertiarystudy. You will find the links to ships on my CareerJunk blog @ jobs out now.
Employment
Sub-choicettes for Employment include:
Full-time,
Part-time or a
combo deal (work/study).
Gap Year
I have included Gap Year as a main choice because taking a gap year is a deliberate decision made by many young people. Some terrific choices can be found on my Gap Year page.
Sub-choicettes for Gapping include:
- Travel,
- Study &
- Work (including Defence Force & traineeships)
Uh-oh-Unemployment
Sometimes, bother, this option may happen at some point, if it does, that is when Centrelink becomes your newest and bestest BFF!
4 Choice Column-ised
The FOUR main choices are detailed in the table below, from each main choice (column 1), there are sub-choice-ettes (column 2), the sub-choice-ettes have some serious questions you need to ask yourself (column 3), and the answers may come from the links provided in column 4.
Observation: This is the same information as above, but presented in a different way.
